Prayer - Spiritual Food

Gandhiji said, 'It has never happened that God has not answered my prayers'.

Just as the body needs sattvic food to keep it healthy, so does the heart need healthy prayers to keep it healthy.  Prayer makes our minds pure and happy.  We do many things from morning to evening.  In some tasks we find success;  When some tasks fail.  We rejoice in success and we despair in failure.

Sometimes we have too much joy or too much grief.  Let's go  Prayer empowers us to be equal in both happiness and sorrow.  Through prayer we reach the surrender of the Lord for a while.  Praying with a pure heart gives us immense peace.  We also have the power to survive disaster.  Prayer awakens in us a sense of humility.  With prayer we can see our cravings and overcome them.  Prayer removes the filthiness of our heart.

That is why Uncle Kalelkar has said that prayer is a bath of the heart.  Mass prayers are held in schools.  This helps children to develop the habit of praying.  Praying makes children cultured.  No matter how much work he did, Gandhiji prayed regularly in the morning and evening.  Many joined in his prayers and experienced peace.  Heartfelt prayer never fails.  Draupadi sincerely prayed to the Lord.  So the Lord had his tears at the right time.

Satyavan was revived by the prayers of Sati Savitri.  After hearing the prayers of Narasimha Mehta, Lord Krishna recited many of his prayers.  By taking the form of Ramgari Seth, the Lord became the mother of Kunwarbai, the daughter of the devotee Narasimha.Babur surrendered wholeheartedly and saved his dying son Humayun.  The importance of prayer has been acknowledged in all religions.  Christians go to church every Sunday and pray.

Muslims pray five times a day.  Many good deeds begin with prayer.  Prayers can be sung or prayers can be recited.  Katha, Bhajan Kirtan and Satsang are the same forms of prayer.  We should pray every day.  It is not right to ask God for riches or glory in prayer.  May God grant us peace and strength to endure in any situation.
